Guides: "Doug-Errr" Rodricks

"Doug-Errr" Rodricks

Doug Rodricks has been fishing the Eastern Sierra for 22 years. He has spent countless summers and winters in this region in which he now resides. Doug is just at home on moving water as he is on Crowley Lake, where over the past six years he has perfected his still water nymphing and streamer tugging techniques. With the new addition of his 20' Ranger flats style bay boat, Doug is ready to get you on the knuckle busting fish of Crowley quickly and comfortably.   Doug-Errr will also be guiding clients on a 2006 17 foot Willie drift boat this winter.  This rig is the sweetest drift boat in the Sierra and can ride three anglers in style.  He has been drifting the river for six years and has extensive knowledge of the Lower Owens from a drift boat.

Doug grew up in Canoga Park, Ca and discovered his interest in trout fishing at the age of 9, while spending his summers in Yosemite with his family. By the following year he found himself hooking his first trout on the Merced River, which spawned his obsession with fishing. In addition to trout fishing, Doug is an avid saltwater fisherman and in the fall, he takes 10 days off to pursue the cow tuna and home guard yellowtail of Magdalena Bay and Cedros Island, respectively. His patience and easy going personality make him an excellent teacher and great guy to be on the water with. He really enjoys teaching people the sport which he has grown to love and for Doug, it doesn't get any better than seeing the smile on someone's face who just hooked their first fish on the fly.

We Let Our Clients do the talking...Here's What Some Have Said About Spending their day with Doug:

Just a note to let you know what a wonderful time we had out on the lake with Doug.  He was an awesome guide.  This was our first time fly fishing from a boat.  He taught us a lot and he was very patient with us.  We would definitely try it again.  It was a great experience.

Tom, I just wanted to take a minute to tell you what a great time my granddaughter Ashton and I had last week (or was it the week before--time flies too fast for me)! Doug Rodricks took us out for a day on Crowley and Two-Bug Doug took us for one on the Owens River. Both were new places for us. I think Doug Rodricks is a fairly new guide for you. Well, he's terrific! He's got a great personality, is attentive to his guests, relates well to them, and knows how to fish and how to find fish. His boat was immaculate. Your boats are about the nicest fishing platforms I've ever been on! I'd go fishing with him again anytime! Doug Dolan is a known commodity for you, and we had an equally great day with him. I'd have a hard time choosing which one to go with again! Thanks for helping us have a really special fishing adventure! Next month Ashton is heading to UC Davis for her first year of college, so this was a really special trip for us.

Best regards, Dave Kelley

I wanted to let you know what a great time we had with Doug as our guide last Saturday. My 20 year old son and I wanted to try our hand at fly fishing and Doug was the perfect fit for what we were looking for.  He paid great attention to our every need, gave great instruction and took us to some extraordinary places.  He was punctual and generous with his time.  We will be back next summer and I hope Doug is still there so we can have him for another great fishing experience.
