Pleasant
Valley Reservoir:

Weekends can be understandably crowded. Alpers Trophy
trout are planted in the reservoir on a regular basis giving you the opportunity
to nail a large fish in the river or the reservoir proper. Use a dry/dropper
combo in the moving water sections. Float tubing (aka “freeze tubing”) is
allowed on the reservoir proper and is producing good numbers of browns and
hatchery rainbows. Tubing while trolling/stripping streamers will produce here.
Use a moderate sink tip or full sink tip in the deeper sections near the dam
area. You must carry your gear/tube down to the access areas from the parking
lot at the power station. This is about a ¾ mile walk. You can also float
tube at the dam end of the reservoir and your walk here from the parking lot is
only about 200 yards. The river leading into the reservoir proper is also
excellent for browns in the 9-18” class. Stay along the immediate riverbank
please, as there are many nesting birds in the marsh area near the rivers entry
into the reservoir. The water temps are very cold this time of year. Be careful
in your “freeze tube”. Dress warm and in plenty of layers. P.V. Reservoir is
located in a steep canyon and the sun will shine only mid-day.
