Fall Through Spring Drift Boat Excursions

Drift boating the Lower Owens River near Bishop CA  during the fall, winter, and early spring months is the optimum way to fish the secluded and hard to reach sections of this scenic and fertile trout fishery.   We offer five expert guides with Willie drift boats that can pilot you on the Lower "O".  This is a must do trip if you are interested in fishing here during this time of year.  Casting streamers is the predominant method of angling, but there are incredible dry fly opportunities at times.  This trip is great for novice and expert anglers alike.  Our drift boats can ride three anglers comfortably and safely.  We have developed unique methods of fly fishing from a drift boat that do NOT require wading during the cooler winter months.  We pioneered guided drift boat trips on the Lower Owens and have the most experienced guides in the region.  These float trips are a blast and once you drift the Lower "O" you will see why they are so popular.  We see the best numbers of fish during September/early December.  Great fall caddis opportunities present themselves most days.

The trophy trout season begins during the middle of winter and lasts through March most seasons.  This does not mean you will not hook "Troutzilla" in October but we historically get the trophy sized trout during the shorter winter days and if you are looking for the fish of a lifetime we suggest a winter float.  The numbers and incredible dry fly fishing begins to pick up in early February most years.  We get fantastic blanket baetis hatches in early spring and even novice angler can catch the eager trout on dries easily.

Walk & Wade Trips:

We also offer guided "walk and wade" trips to other year round fisheries in the Eastern Sierra.  Beginner or expert we have top notch guides that can enhance your fly fishing abilities.  The Lower Owens River is open year round. The catch and release fisheries of the Upper Owens River above the Benton Bridge to Big Springs, the East Walker River below Bridgeport Reservoir, and Hot Creek, will remain open year around.  These fisheries are ZERO limits, NO BAIT of any kind, BARBLESS hooks only.

The East Walker River and Hot Creek are recent additions to this areas year round fisheries and we have guides that can show you the tricks of how to catch fish here year round.  There can be incredible fly fishing opportunities on these fisheries during the winter and early spring seasons depending on the winter weather pattern.  We will be happy to advise you as to what your best fishing adventure will be during this time of year.  The "Gorge" has an awesome year round fishery with a great population of wild browns.  We suggest this trip for those who enjoy moderate hiking and who have at least intermediate casting skills.

Still Water Adventures on the "Fish Magnets"

We offer the finest fleet of flats style bay boats in the Eastern Sierra.  They range from 21 to 24 feet and can accommodate up to four anglers.  We have seven boats captained by expert guides.  This is our flag ship summer time program and we primarily fish the "crown jewel" of the Sierra...Crowley Lake.  We will also move the "fish magnets" to Bridgeport Reservoir when the bite gets hot, or if a client would like to visit the "other" blue ribbon still water in this region.  Crowley and Bridgeport are open during the general trout season in Mono county and we guide here daily.

Our guides have perfected still water nymphing techniques making it easy for beginning fly fishers, youngsters, and senior anglers to get numerous opportunities at landing the world famous trout on Crowley Lake.  We do not claim to be the inventors of fly fishing...we just made it easier and more enjoyable.  The still water fly fishing program is very user friendly and we strongly suggest this as a guide trip during the months of May through October.  In fact; Crowley is the most consistent quality trout fishery in the Eastern Sierra.  The still water programs are great for large groups, families and fly fishers that enjoy sharing their fishing experiences together first hand.

The more advanced anglers will find Crowley 's opportunities in the upper echelon of trout fisheries anywhere.  Let us show you the advantages of casting streamer patterns from the "fish magnets".   The damsel fly nymph and Sacramento Perch fry migrations are special periods on Crowley.  August through October are historically the best. We have developed famous streamer and nymph patterns specifically for Crowley.  Let the creators of these patterns show you how to fish them correctly!

Summer  time" moving water" fly fly fishing programs
